Goobuntu: not a public product

So some of the Google employees have been working on an operating system and application suite based on the Ubuntu Linux distribution, currently going by the name Goobuntu. Is Google going to fight head-on with Windows? Well the media sure hopes so! Unfortunately, once again, many major news outlets currently reporting this story forgot to actually get all of the news. One of the Google employees working on this project has left a comment on Slashdot saying that it's just something they're playing around with internally and that for Google to officially push a product like this would be kind of dumb. But whatever, I'm sure the news stories and discussion will continue for several days longer in more of the media's blind hope to make a story out of nothing.

Update 2006-02-02: I forgot to mention that there are some supposed screenshots of the system that spilled onto the Web some time back. These screenshots are probably completely phoney, but I thought it was worth pointing out.
