Nanobox Features Auto Link Fixer
The Google image search brings up a ton of broken links to my site, due to the fact that I split several galleries into multiple pages shortly after they were indexed. But I didn't feel like manually feeding people permanent redirects for each of the images to each of the new locations. Instead, I utilized my Nanobox search engine to offer automatic link fixing
whenever a visitor tries to access a nonexistent file. The way it works is similar to Google's I'm Feeling Lucky
feature, which automatically feeds to visitor a redirect to the top result. But instead of a regular search query, I simply plop in the requested filename (without path information).
Because 01.jpg from a Ranma gallery wouldn't exactly be the same as 01.jpg from an Evangelion directory (although it may appear higher on the results for 01.jpg
), I'm soon going to add a way to have the results tweaked based on certain keywords that don't necessarily have to be in all of the results. I'll add each of the path components with this tweaking
operator to get the best matches.
Here are some links to try it out:
Edit 2005-06-14: I added that feature now. The ?
operator, followed immediately by a keyword (optionally surrounded with quotes for multi-word keywords) allows results to be ordered with favor for that keyword. Multiple such flavor
operators may be used. The way this works is as follows: the flavor keywords are disregarded when fetching the complete list of results, but they are treated equally with regular keywords when determining the relevance of each result.
Edit 2005-06-14: I changed the algorithm slightly. Flavor keywords now have half the effect of regular keywords. I also made it so the order in which keywords appear in the query is important. Keywords closer to the beginning have a greater impact on the order of the search results.
