Google and Philosophy
We all know Google. We all use it every day, in one form or another. Whether it's web search, e-mail, discussion groups, weblogs, driving directions, shopping, weather, or getting your quote of the day, Google provides it all.
So today I was browsing around their company information pages, and I stumbled across this little bit I remember reading way back in the day when their image search was a new feature. I will quote what they currently have on their Our Philsophy
page:
It's best to do one thing really, really well.
Google does search. Google does not do horoscopes, financial advice or chat.
Last time I read it, it went a little bit more into how they follow the Linux philosophy of do one thing, do it right,
but still, as currently worded, it's kind of funny to read. It's no wonder why they strayed from their original goal, and one could also argue that the other features indirectly help to improve the core service, but I really think it's time for them to change that bit on their page. They are anything but a single-focus company.
