I just finished watching the last episode of American Idol before the final results, and I noticed something very strange. When they replayed parts of the performances at the end, one of Carrie Underwood's performances was edited. In her third performance that night, she ended the song by singing higher and softer, and I think there was a bit of a crack in her voice. But when they "replayed" that part at the end, it was lower, stronger, and, in my opinion, better than the one she actually performed. Unless I've mistaken somewhere (and I have it on TiVo and played it back a few times to make sure), the end of the show was edited after the performance in favor of Carrie.
