The Windmill

I started working on a website portal system called The Windmill. It's basically a building block from which to build the various parts of the website, like message boards, downloads, news pages, etc. It provides a structure that allows for easy integration of the various systems built on it.

Before I make it publicly available, I'm going to make several of these systems that will come with it. I'm currently planning a news system, message board system, downloads, and gallery. We'll see how much I can get done before I lose too much motivation.

Currently features of the Windmill core include a user account system with settings for language, message graphics and effects (such as emoticons in message board posts), account-selectible system sets (which may be used for skins, or a single system set may have selectible skins, or a special system set may be available to administrators, etc.), and a slim, yet powerful, design that allows for easy system development with maximum flexibility. It's currently being written primarily in PHP with use of MySQL tables (although not relying on them as heavily as some systems like Invision Power Board do).

When or if I get the Windmill finished, I plan to make it available for free use with all standard features, not including tech support and hosting.
