Google Buys E-mail Software Company? Or News.com Messed Up?
I recently got a Google News Alert from CNET News.com entitled GOOGLE buys e-mail software company
. Upon clicking on it, I received a 404: File Not Found. This appears to be yet another case where News.com has posted a news article and then later altered it. This is an awful practice, and I am very displeased with them for it.
I have recently experienced another case of News.com doing this, when Gmail accidentally said You are currently using 0 MB (0%) of your 1000000 MB
. News.com reported this in a tone that sounded as though they believed it was true. The title of the article was Google tests waters with terabyte e-mail limit
, posted by Stephen Shankland. When the problem was fixed, I contacted him informing him of this, and he replied, Excellent--thanks for writing. We'll update the story soon.
When the story was updated, the old story was completely deleted from the archives and replaced with a story that covered the entire incident. No trace of the original article remains.
Unlike with the terabyte issue, I didn't get a chance to read the original article claiming that Google bought an e-mail company. All the information I have is what I got in the News Alert, which is as follows:
